Description
At 4,693 meters above sea level, Khunjerab Pass is the highest paved international border crossing in the world, connecting Pakistan and China via the iconic Karakoram Highway. Built in 1982, it replaced the rugged Mintaka and Kilik Passes, offering a smooth yet thrilling journey through the majestic Karakoram Range. The final stretch from Sost, the last town before the border, takes travelers through Khunjerab National Park, where stunning scenery and wildlife like marmots and ibex await. The last 15 minutes of the drive offer breathtaking views, with natural hues of yellow, green, and brown against snow-capped peaks. At the Pass, the crisp mountain air, panoramic vistas, and even the world’s highest ATM make for a truly unforgettable experience — though visitors usually stay under an hour due to the altitude.
